1/6 Committee chairman Bennie Thompson has said the committee will be requesting testimony from former vice chairman Mike Pence before the end of the month.
President Thompson told NPR:
“I think you might expect that before the end of the month,” Thompson noted.
“The vice president has been put in a difficult position. The president was putting a lot of pressure on him to break the law, and he held on, ”added Thompson. “And because of his respect for the law, there were people who came to the Capitol a year ago to hang him. And so, if for no other reason, our committee really needs to hear what his views are on what happened on January 6th.
Mike Pence was a target on 1/6, but he will likely fight any effort to get him to testify
By all accounts, former Vice President Pence was one of the targets of Attack 1/6. People in Trump’s orbit have said the goal of 1/6 is to prevent Pence from certifying the election so that she can eventually be sent back to States and Congress to hand Donald Trump the presidency.
Even though Pence is seen as a traitor and an enemy in Trump’s world, he still wants to run for President in 2024, so Pence should be expected to resist all efforts to have him testify.
Trump supporters wanted to hang him, but Mike Pence is unlikely to cooperate with Committee 1/6.
