Pakistan clears Covid vaccine booster for people over 30: report

Pakistan has allowed booster shots for people aged 30 and over.

Amid the increase in Omicron cases in a number of countries, Pakistan’s COVID response agency has authorized booster injections for people aged 30 and older.

The booster shots will be given free of charge from January 1, Dawn reported, citing Dr Rana Safdar, director general of the Department of National Health Services (NHS).

Individuals would be given booster doses of their choice, Safdar said, noting that this mix and match has been authorized or that the booster from the same company, which was administered earlier, can be administered according to people’s choice.

Previously, people over 50 and immunocompromised people were allowed to receive free booster injections.

Urging people to get vaccinated, the NCOC said in a statement Monday that the Omicron variant has been reported in 95 countries, with 58,000 confirmed cases to date.
